OctopusOn Index Checker 0.1.0

First release of the OctopusOn Index Checker: a desktop app and the octopuson-index command line that find the URLs search engines still index but your site no longer serves, and write the redirects that fix them.

Highlights

  • Discover indexed URLs for free: site: searches on Google, Bing, Yandex and DuckDuckGo in a browser you watch, with automatic subdirectory queries, plus XML sitemaps, robots.txt and URL lists from Search Console or Yandex Webmaster. Serper and SerpApi are optional.
  • Check every URL like a crawler: 404 and 410, other 4xx and 5xx errors, redirect loops, soft 404s (from page text, redirects to the home page, canonicals or meta refresh) and thin pages under a word-count threshold.
  • Index health: a score, per-directory clusters with suggested actions, noindex and orphan indexed pages, and broken sitemap URLs.
  • Fixes ready to deploy: 301 and 410 rules for Nginx (with directory wildcards), Apache, Caddy, IIS, Cloudflare, Vercel and Next.js; WordPress and Shopify CSVs; removal lists, a clean sitemap and IndexNow lists.
  • Scan comparison: resolved, new, persistent and dropped URLs between scans, and re-checks after a fix.
  • Exports to Excel, CSV, JSON and Markdown, shared with the CLI.

Installation notes

  • macOS: the app is not notarized yet. If macOS says it cannot verify the developer, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway.
  • Windows: SmartScreen may warn about an unknown publisher; choose More info → Run anyway.

OctopusOn SEO Crawler 0.1.0

First release of the OctopusOn SEO Crawler: a desktop app and the octopuson-crawler command line that crawl websites the way search engines do and audit them.

Highlights

  • Spider-mode and URL-list crawls with parallel requests, rate limits, user-agent presets, robots.txt, sitemaps, scope patterns and query-parameter removal. No built-in URL limit.
  • JavaScript rendering through an installed Chrome, Chromium or Edge, with raw versus rendered comparisons and explicit per-page rendering errors.
  • More than 100 technical checks: response codes, redirect chains and loops, titles and descriptions, headings, canonical and hreflang relationships, images, links, orphan pages, structured data, security, response times, and AI crawler access including llms.txt.
  • An explainable SEO score, broken down system by system, with every deduction leading back to its findings and URLs.
  • Live crawl activity with pause, resume and stop; saved crawls on disk to reopen, repeat and compare.
  • Comparisons of crawls and of findings, duplicate and near-duplicate content groups, and an XML sitemap builder.
  • Exports to Excel, CSV and JSON, shared with the CLI.

OctopusOn SEO Keyword Research 0.1.0

First release of the OctopusOn SEO Keyword Research: a desktop app and the octopuson-keywords command line to discover keywords, group them into clusters one page can target, and map the clusters to your site.

Highlights

  • Discovery from every source:
  • Yandex Wordstat (top requests and associations, within its hourly quota).
  • DataForSEO: Google Ads ideas and volumes; Labs ideas, related searches, suggestions and competitor keywords; autocomplete.
  • SerpApi autocomplete.
  • Search Console queries and Google Ads Keyword Planner with your own Google OAuth client.
  • Every keyword keeps the source and seed that found it.
  • Imports from Ahrefs, Semrush, Keyword Planner, Search Console and Wordstat exports (CSV, TSV, TXT, Excel or a Search Console ZIP), with their volumes, ranges, cost, competition, difficulty and monthly searches.
  • Turkish-aware keywords: variants that differ in case, diacritics or spacing are one keyword. Wording clusters remove Turkish suffixes but keep intent words apart.
  • Three clusterings:
  • by wording, free and instant for 50,000 keywords;
  • by shared top-ten results, soft or hard, by page or by site;
  • hybrid, with unverified members marked.
  • Clusters show searches, intent (with a mixed-intent warning), difficulty and cost.
  • Manual moves and splits that later clusterings keep.
  • Site mapping: the target page of each cluster, cannibalisation, gaps and the competitors that rank, from Search Console and stored result pages.
  • Content briefs from the pillar's result page: questions people ask, related searches and the top pages.
  • Exports of keywords and clusters to Excel, CSV and JSON.
  • Monthly budgets and a cost estimate before every paid run.
  • Keys and the Google sign-in stay in the system keychain, bound to the provider's address.

The free suggestion endpoints

Google's and Yandex's suggestion endpoints are not official APIs, and Yandex's terms forbid automated queries without permission. They are off until you switch them on with the terms accepted.

When on:

  • The SEO Keyword Research asks them with its own user agent, one request every two seconds at least, and at most 2,000 per engine and day.
  • The first refusal stops that engine until the next day.

Installation notes

  • macOS: the app is not notarized yet. If macOS says it cannot verify the developer, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway.
  • Windows: SmartScreen may warn about an unknown publisher; choose More info → Run anyway.
  • Google Ads keyword planning needs at least Basic access for your Google Cloud project.

OctopusOn SERP Checker 0.1.0

First release of the OctopusOn SERP Checker: a desktop app and the octopuson-serp command line for rankings, keyword analysis and keyword difficulty you can explain.

Highlights

  • Your sources: Google, Bing and Yandex through the free browser mode, the Yandex Search API, DataForSEO, Serper or SerpApi — or your own provider, described with a request template and a JSONPath, CSS or regular-expression mapping. Each engine tries its sources in the order you set; monthly budgets and a cost estimate come before every run.
  • Keyword analysis: the top results are crawled with the SEO Crawler engine and scored. Content scores cover keyword placement, topic coverage, depth, structure, questions, media, schema, snippet fit and freshness; site scores cover domain age (RDAP, WHOIS, Wayback), Open PageRank, referring domains and, optionally, Tranco popularity.
  • Explainable keyword difficulty: the click-weighted strength of the ten results, adjusted for brands, forums and ads, with every component, its weight and its contribution shown. Search intent, SERP features, your opportunity, content gaps and what it takes to rank come with it.
  • Rank tracking: projects with daily, weekly or manual checks on several engines and locales; positions, best positions, history, visibility, share of voice and cannibalisation. Due checks run while the app is open, and octopuson-serp track --due runs them from cron.
  • Stored result pages: every response is kept compressed. When an engine changes its HTML, patch the selectors, test them on a stored page and read old snapshots again without a request.
  • Exports of rank reports and analyses to Excel, CSV and JSON.
  • Keys are kept in the system keychain (a protected file on Linux), bound to the address they were entered for, and never exported.

The free browser mode

Google encrypts its result links, so in the browser mode Google results carry their site, not the page address: rankings by domain are exact, while page-level work needs a Google API source. Bing and Yandex results keep their full addresses.

It searches in a visible Chrome or Edge window with its own profile, one query at a time, with a fixed pause (30 seconds by default, at least 10) and a daily limit per engine. When an engine shows a consent or check page, the window comes to the front and the search waits for you to clear it; the app never solves, hides from or works around such pages. Automated searching may conflict with a search engine's terms; use an API for heavy tracking.

Installation notes

  • macOS: the app is not notarized yet. If macOS says it cannot verify the developer, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway.
  • Windows: SmartScreen may warn about an unknown publisher; choose More info → Run anyway.
  • The browser mode and JavaScript rendering need an installed Chrome, Chromium or Edge.

  • AI visibility: AI training, AI search and AI assistant crawlers in separate categories, plus visits referred by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Claude.

  • Windows: SmartScreen may warn about an unknown publisher; choose More info → Run anyway.
